INTRODUCTION
A few things happened this week which paved the way for this page. I will give you a number of examples.

Last week, early in the morning a colleague of mine asked me to make an appointment with him in the afternoon. I know this colleague a bit and this led me to guess what the contents of the interaction would be. I trusted my guts and I was quite sure what to expect. When the afternoon came and he told me what he wanted to see me for I was in for quite a surprise: he said something completely different than I had expected. I was wrong all the way.

There was also the aftermath of the interaction with oKa (see karma-trilogy). I talked to oKa again and Ken added some comments. This made me realize that there was something not quite right with the rather virulent approach to the use of a pendulum and my thoughts about the 'I talk directly to Terra/Earth Mother'-thought-form of oKa. The most important realization was that I had somehow created all kinds of thoughts about the way oKa was thinking and seeing her world. Like in the first example I had made all kinds of assumptions about the dynamics in her inner world and the thought-forms that constituted parts of her reality perception which could as easily have been the creative product of my mind, unrelated to her inner world.

Then there was this message from the South African Group (which I am not going to put on this site) that talked about the mind as a prison. oKa has also stressed the severe limitations of the mental mind several times. In the 10,000 babbling idiots article the idea of the limiting tendencies of the 'intellect' was mentioned by Larry as well. We are all aware of the intellect's ability to stiffle the rest of our being.

THE SOLITARY MENTAL BODY
It was especially the event at my work that triggered this current page: apparently my mind is able to make gross mistakes and it had felt as if I was right with my assumptions. On top of that I have learnt that I am able to make all kinds of assumptions about the inner dynamics of other people, which might easily be distorted as well. So, what to think about all this? Should I perhaps return to the pendulum again?

On several occasions I have mentioned the difference between the mental body working on a solitary basis and the mental body that mainly functions as a translator of the information that is produced and received by the other aspects of oneself (see Intraselfular Communication). I still think that this distinction is valid, but I have to admit that I underestimated the 'power' of the solitary mental body, who can easily make up many creative delusions on all kinds of matters. Perhaps this mental body is not as eager to be transformed into some translator of other aspects of oneself. He might experience this as a loss of his sovereign position as both the creator and speaker of words.

Then there is also the possibility of memes refusing to give in. In the page called 'Thought Form Rating Scale' I introduced the concept of the 'meme' which can be defined as a thought-form that wants to protect itself from being dismantled. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a strong pull against the removal of certain thought-forms.

On top of that there might be some influence by 'astral' people who might prefer to leave certain thought-forms in someone's reality perspective, for it allows them to connect to that person, and consequently take a few spoons of energy on a regular basis because of this 'meme-link'.

BARON VON MUNCHHAUSEN
In the eightteenth century there was a person with the name of Baron von Munchhausen who according to his own stories was able to escape from a swamp by pulling himself up by his own hair. My mental body recovered the memory of this tale when I was trying to describe the method that I have been using ever since I removed the pendulum tool as an aid to the ascension process. How could I ever ascend and raise my vibration with a mental body that cannot be trusted? How can I use the aligned mental body as a translator when it can just as easily turn into the solitary mental body making up all kinds of delusions without me noticing the difference. What kind of tool is that? Is the mental body able to pull itself out of the swamp?

TO CIRCUMVENT THE MENTAL MIND
Let's take another look at the pendulum and other ascension tools: in a recent email oKa was referring to the tarot deck and the pendulum when she wrote:

...but the dream must be authenticated and interpreted not by the mental mind .. but with tools that circumvent the mental mind.
Perhaps this is the best method after all. It allows one to get into contact with far more information than one could gather through the non-pendulum mode. I really think it is quite possible to circumvent the mental mind and tune in to other regions first. You could consider this approach the 'top-down-approach': you bypass the 'chaos' from the mental body and tune into other regions with these familiar ascension tools. You take this information and start working with it as the basis of your 'working hypotheses'.

During this week I have learnt that this can be a valid way to make progress in one's ascension process.

CREATING DELUSIONS
There is however a catch in the pendulum approach: you can as easily tune into some aspects of yourself (or of someone or something else) that is filled with delusions and distortions as well. You might be fooled into believing that the pendulum is a tool that doesn't make mistakes or that doesn't occasionally transfer delusions as well. I think it is likely that there are many parts of yourself that can be compared to the 'solitary mental body' in the sense that they prefer to hold on to certain modes of being that they like. I wouldn't be surprised if much information that is received through the pendulum or the tarot deck or whatever external method that is applied can be the result of creative delusions, perhaps not conceived by the mental mind, but by other parts of oneself.

It is the silent assumption that once you are able to circumvent the mental mind there is more reliable information to be gathered: as if things are clearer above the mental 'chaos'. Perhaps this is a variant of the concept of multidimensional awe that I have mentioned before. Why would there be more reliable information available if we are able to circumvent the mental body? Why would the mental body be the only body that is distorted?

WORKING TOWARDS MORE MENTAL BODY ALIGNMENT
Even though I now recognize the pendulum and the tarot deck as tools that provide the possibility to fish into other aspects of yourself (or someone or something else) I still prefer the 'bottom-up'-approach, which to me means that I invest in the clearing of the mental body. I will try to work towards the transformation of the 'solitary mental body'-state towards a state of 'an aligned mental body' that works harmoniously with the rest of ourselves.

This is not an easy task since I am likely to be fooled again and again by the tricks of this solitary mental body and the memes that defend themselves as well from being removed out of my reality perspective. But, although the other tools may provide information of a 'higher' nature I prefer to work in the mud and there are a few arguments why I feel better with this approach:

  • If the mental body is circumvented when gathering information with pendulum-related tools because of its unreliable and limited nature it is slightly odd to use this mental body to launch all kinds of intentions. Why would you use an unreliable tool for one's intentions?
  • I think the mental body hosts many thought-forms that make up one's current reality perspective. If you want to transform thought-forms the mental body seems to be a perfect canditate to get this job done.
  • If you want to express yourself in words you need the mental body. It is therefore worthwhile to remove as much distortion and delusional thinking out of the mental body in order for it to be more reliable in describing intraselfular developments.
  • I think that in the original blueprint we were not meant to use a pendulum to communicate with other parts of ourselves. A well functioning and rightly aligned mental body should be able to translate and add information to an overall awareness of who we are.

CONCLUSION
Perhaps many of our current problems reside in the 'chaos' of our mental body. If you would make a habit of circumventing the mental body, you might circumvent the real problems and its solutions as well. If you accept the reality of a mental body that is severely limited and unreliable you may not be inclined to do something about it.

The pendulum-approach to ascension is a valid approach in the sense that it provides one with the possibility to access information that would become twisted when you would use a twisted mental body as a tool. It could provide clues to foster one's ascension process.

The 'clearing-the-mental-body'-approach is a valid approach as well because it allows for the transformation of thought-forms, which I consider to be the fundamental building blocks of one's reality perspective.

As long as the mental body is still rather 'skewed towards distortion' it seems that we need both approaches: one to get information that would be unaccessible with a 'distorted' mental body and one which focuses on the clearing of this distorted mental body. Once the distortion clears we can take a look into other realms of ourselves without any need to circumvent the mental body with an external tool.
