Ascension would be a process in which you understand more and more of your own history, your ancestral history and the karmic material that would be hidden in the lineages that you carry around with you. You would learn about the ways you interact with other people, the way you manipulate (or are manipulated by) other people either consciously or unconsciously. You learn to think differently and rise above certain polarity-thinking on all kinds of themes.
As you can see this implies a growth of understanding, a growth of conscious understanding. I don't think it is possible to ascend without being aware of it. Perhaps it is possible when you are still in the lower frequencies, but it doesn't make sense to ascend without realizing it. As far as I understand it now you definitely need to push the process along by intending all kinds of things. Without the intent to ascend, the intent to open your heart, to release karma not much ascension would take place.
This doesn't mean that you direct your ascension process alone. For me it means that you allow some things to happen. You allow your soul or your ancestors to seek out the karmic material that could be released, or you allow your soul to present you with the thoughtforms that are distracting you from your process. Ascension for me means a dance with the unconscious realms in which more and more of the unconscious and subconscious is handed over to the consciousness, allowing for a change in frequency and understanding together with a change in biology.
To state that you can ascend without any conscious effort seems like an oxymoron to me. But that is not the final word on this issue I believe, for I am open to the possibility that there are certain reasons why people could ascend to a certain level without being completely aware of it. Take for instance the children who would be born with a 'more advanced state of genetics'. They hold a certain ascended biology without really being aware of it, at least not until they reach a certain age. Perhaps take a look at 'One Million Babies'
Mila has written about people in Hawaii who would have grown bigger heads during the last couple of years. If there is some truth in that observation I can't imagine those people trying to ascend consciously. She also speaks of more ascending characteristics which would appear in humanity in general in the years to come. Here's the excerpt to which I am referring from a 2004-article:
In Mila and Oa’s perception, those residing in the islands or mountains are rapidly ascending or rapidly aging. Those who are ascending are massing out in body size and the cranium is expanding. They observed a waiter at one of their favorite restaurants the other night and whom they have known for a few years now that they have lived upon the Big Island. This man has grown in height and weight, and the face has become more round due to the growth of the pineal and pituitary glands and expansion of the cranium. This individual does not study Mila and Oa’s web materials, although they are interested in spiritual pursuits in their own way. Yet others who are Hawaiian are also obviously ascending as the symptoms of ascension can be seen in their personal body changes. This is a good sign that ascension is catching on in the unconscious of those humans that have ancestral agreements for the journey.
For those living in the density of other regions, ascension may be slower to catch on. However as the frequencies rise, those in the suburbs and country will begin to ascend. One will begin to see the symptoms of ascension all around oneself in the decade ahead. For those consciously choosing this path, one may ascend in the now through the freewill choice to do so. However how far one will be able to ascend will be affected by where one lives; it is for this reason that Mila and Oa have recommended that ascending initiates move out of the density and into the country, near a lake, in the mountains or by the sea.
Generational ascension will occur due to one’s own intentions. As one intends to ascend, one intends it so not only for oneself, but all who are related unto one’s inheritance in present time, and each future generation related unto oneself yet unborn. The intent to ascend therefore shall mold one’s future to one of arriving in the fourth dimension as a living ancestor to the human species some 1000 years into the future. The pathway may be narrow, and the road rocky and filled with potholes and cliffs that one may fall off, but if Mila and Oa can succeed, so can one’s ancestry, provided the right parents find one another producing the right offspring with the right genealogical information for the next phase of biological ascension ahead. All it takes is one of one’s own inheritance to blend with another with the missing information, and the goal of ascension of oneself shall be fulfilled upon.

So, there also seems to be an 'exception' to the 'rule' of having to consciously activate your ascension process if there is some kind of 'agreement' from your ancestors. Are these agreements enough to activate your ascension process? Or do you perhaps need to live in an area that already has risen in the level of ascension, like in Hawaii or mountainous areas?
In order for this 'unconscious ascension' to make any sense to me it would still imply changes in biology and these changes can only take place when certain thoughtforms are introduced and other thoughtforms are dismissed. Perhaps these people that are inclined to ascend 'unconsciously' are those that already tend to carry certain modes of thinking that more 'unity-like' and less polarity-based. This would make it easier for certain biological changes to be anchored.
If you live in these 'highly-stranded' areas and you don't have these unity-like thoughtforms easily available it would lead to a faster decline of your biology, unless you start to work on these thoughtforms. In that case it would be necessary to actively and consciously start working on these matters. You cannot sit back and wait for your ascension to happen spontaneously. Ascending means hard work most of the time.
While walking through the snow yesterday I thought that perhaps it would be possible that because of the clearing of certain parts of certain lineages by consciously ascending people, all the people that carry within them these same lineages can take advantage of this work by others and have the karmic load removed as well from those parts of their biology that are linked to these lineages. I haven't got a clue if this truly is a possibility or not. If anyone has more info on this, feel free to inform me about it!
I have come into contact with people who are convinced that it is better not to consciously guide your ascension process, but to let it all happen without any conscious effort. The less energy you consciously invest, the better, they say. Because you would thwart the process with your limited awareness that is likely to be darkened by your ego. Let it all be done by the bigger sources, seems to be their motto.
So far, I tend to disagree with this position. If you are in the situation to actively promote your own ascension process I think your consciousness can be like a catalyst instead of some thwarting agent. Of course I do agree with the possibility that you can get carried away with this conscious stimulation of your ascension process. I guess that there should always be some kind of balance between actively steering and actively waiting for the changes. Sometimes you need to 'pace yourself' and sometimes you need to utter some new powerful intentions to get the ascension process on track again.
